Serendip Surf Co. was founded by local surf legend Anu – a passionate surfer with deep roots in the waves of southern Sri Lanka. This surf school is more than a business – it’s his dream come to life: A place where people from all walks of life can discover the joy, challenge and beauty of surfing.
Here’s a message from Anu himself, so you can get to know the heart behind it all:
Hi there,
Thank you for stopping by – and welcome to Serendip Surf Co.
My name is Anupa Sharasi, but most people call me Anu. I’m 28 years old and grew up in Polhena, a coastal town on the south coast of Sri Lanka. I started to surf at my home break Galahena when I was a kid – back then, with nothing but an old board from my uncle and a big dream.
I spent nearly every day in the ocean and quickly discovered my passion for surfing. In 2017 I travelled to overseas to get my ISA Level 1 (International Surfing Association) and the ILS (International Life Saving) qualification – the global standards for surf coaching and safety in the water. Last year (2024), I renewed my training and achieved my ISA Level 2 certification.
I am a surfer who values flow, connection and reading the wave rather than fighting it. My favorite boards are twin fins, fish boards, long boards and mid-lengths. All in all I am a big fan of alternative boards.
Over the last decade, I’ve taught people from all around the world – from total beginners to advanced surfers, students of all ages and levels of fitness. Every student has helped shape the coach I am today –
I am grateful for every single connection I was able to build through my teaching. I’ve developed my own way of coaching with one clear goal in mind: To give each student my full attention and bring out the best surfer in them.
My sessions are fun and positive but also focused on real progress. I want you to feel comfortable in the ocean – to be able to read the waves, understand the conditions and build the confidence while respecting the surf etiquette. To keep you surfing wherever life takes you.
